Meaning of LASIK or Femto-LASIK?

Laser-in-situ-Keratomileusis

„The Benefits of LASIK: Reliable, stabil results and rapid visual recovery.“

Stephan Münnich, MD

LASIK, or “Laser assisted in situ Keratomileusis”, is an advanced laser procedure reshaping the central cornea, thereby decreasing or eliminating myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. The refractive surgeon uses a special femtosecond laser or a microkeratome to shave off a thin, hinged layer of the cornea. This flap is then lifted like a hinged door and the exposed layer of the cornea is reshaped using the Excimerlaser. After altering the corneal curvature, the flap is repositioned and adheres without stitches.

The advantages of LASIK

Since 1993, LASIK is being used as the most advanced and most popular procedure there is. The combination of micro-surgery and refractive correction by a laser beam has reliably produced quick visual results in millions of cases all over the world. Furthermore, LASIK offers:

- Fast healing time
- Rapid visual recovery
- Less risk of scarring
- Less risk of corneal haze
- Less post OP discomfort
- Treatment of a wider range of refractive error
- Reliable, stabile results

Is LASIK the right method for you? What are the alternatives?

There are suitable treatment methods for all variants of ametropia. On the following pages we will explain to you which treatment is suitable. It is of great importance that you are thoroughly familiar with the topic before the treatment and that you are well informed about opportunities and risks. Therefore, take advantage of our free initial consultation. We take the time to advise you fundamentally in all questions.

Method PRK

PRK/ LASEK

More than 30 years ago, ametropia was corrected with the help of excimerlaser technology, at that time with the method of photorefractive keratectomy (PRK).

Methode LASIK

LASIK

The laser treatment is applied under the flap to gently reshape the cornea.

Methode SMILE

SMILE

This minimally invasive procedure has even less impact on the biomechanical stability and sensitivity of the cornea.

Method: ICL

ICL

The EVO Visian ICL is an additional lens that is placed in front of the natural lens. The ICL can correct myopia and hyperopia with and without astigmatism.

All about RLE

RLE

The implantation of the multifocal lens  is a safe and precise procedure for the correction of presbyopia. Basically, the natural lens of the eye is replaced with an artificial lens. This Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE) is a proven procedure as it has been used for decades in cataract treatments.
