Is there an "age limit" or can one undergo the procedure at any age?

The ideal candidate is over 20 years old (minimum 18) and has had stable eyeglass or contact lens values for more than two years. There are no eyes or general illnesses that would stand in the way of the operation.

From the age of 40 it becomes increasingly difficult to see sharply with both eyes in the distance and near (presbyopia). The decrease in accommodation, i.e. the close-up reaction of the eye lenses, is responsible for this.

For this stage of life, special treatment principles make sense - on the one hand, the so-called monovision is conceivable: One strives for a slightly different refractive power of both eyes ("mixed" vision). The leading eye is adjusted for the distance and the other eye for the middle distance. This preserves orienting near vision: e.g. when shopping, telephoning, applying make-up, etc.

On the other hand, multifocal intraocular lenses of the latest generation are available as a correction option. In addition to short- and farsightedness, these lenses also correct close-up vision. Corneal curvature (astigmatism) can also be corrected. In most cases, the multifocal lenses allow a life without glasses.
